PowMeet: find the powder days before they happen
PowMeet (app name PowMeet Ai) is a snowfall forecast tool for ski resorts. Follow the resorts you ski and see, day by day, how much new snow is coming.
What PowMeet is
- Coverage
- 3,024 ski resorts in 60 countries and regions, including 409 in Japan, 332 in the United States, 147 in Canada and 70 in China.
- Summit and base forecasts
- Each resort page shows expected new snow at the summit and at the base separately. With a few hundred metres of vertical, it can snow at the top while it rains or sleets at the bottom.
- Forecast range
- Free: daily snowfall and weather for the next 9 days. PowMeet Pro adds the daily forecast for days 10–14, the PowDensity™ heavy snow forecast and side-by-side forecast models.
- How the forecast is made
- PowDensity™ is PowMeet’s own snowfall model. It starts from ECMWF IFS open data (© ECMWF, CC BY 4.0) and NOAA GFS, and uses the temperature at each level of the air above the mountain to tell snow from rain. In Japan, regional weather forecasts come from the Japan Meteorological Agency.
- Where to use it
- On the web at powmeet.app (nothing to install; forecasts and the map work without an account), and in the WeChat mini program “滑雪天气PowMeet”.
- Operator
- 上海玩态科技有限责任公司 (Shanghai, China)
- Please note
- Forecasts are guidance only. Actual snowfall can be more or less than forecast, and the forecast is not a substitute for avalanche bulletins or on-site judgement.
FAQ
Which ski resorts does PowMeet cover?
3,024 ski resorts in 60 countries and regions, including Japan, the United States, Canada, the European Alps and China.
Why are summit and base forecast separately?
Air gets colder with height, and a resort can span several hundred metres of vertical. On the same day the summit may get dry powder while the base gets rain or wet snow, so PowMeet shows both.
How many days can I see for free?
The next 9 days are free. PowMeet Pro adds days 10–14, the PowDensity™ heavy snow forecast and side-by-side forecast models.
Where does the forecast data come from?
Snowfall comes from PowMeet’s own PowDensity™ model, which uses ECMWF IFS open data and NOAA GFS as input. Regional forecasts in Japan come from the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Can I plan a trip on the forecast alone?
We would not. Forecasts are guidance only and snowfall can turn out higher or lower. Check the resort’s own updates, avalanche bulletins and local conditions before you go.
Do I need an account or to pay?
No account is needed for forecasts and the map. Signing in syncs your followed resorts across devices; PowMeet Pro is a paid subscription.
